About NAAB
The Netherlands Alumni Association of Bangladesh (NAAB) serves as a dynamic platform to foster strong connections among Bangladeshi alumni who have studied in the Netherlands. Representing a diverse community of professionals, academics, and individuals from various sectors, NAAB promotes networking, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing across disciplines.
NAAB is officially recognized by Nuffic, the Dutch organization for the internationalization of education, as the representative body of Netherlands Alumni in Bangladesh.
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Dhaka acknowledges NAAB’s endorsement by Nuffic and actively engages with the association to organize events, initiatives, and maintain regular communication.
Any individual of Bangladeshi origin who has pursued higher studies or certified courses in the Netherlands is considered an alumnus. To become a registered member of NAAB, alumni must complete a prescribed online registration process and agree to follow the association’s norms and guidelines.
NAAB was formed in 2004 and rejuvenated in 2013 in Manila, Philippines under the leadership Dr M A Quassem, Ex President -NAAB.
Governance and Core Principles:
NAAB is currently governed by a 13-member Executive Board comprising the President, Vice President, General Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer, Office Secretary, and seven additional Executive Members. This structure is established in accordance with the NAAB constitution endorsed by Nuffic.
All major decisions are made collectively during Board meetings, ensuring the active participation of board members and adherence to the organization’s democratic process.
The core principles guiding NAAB’s operations include mutual respect, personal integrity, institutional transparency, and a sense of shared responsibility. These values are fundamental to maintaining a democratic and inclusive environment within the association.

Tribute to Dr. MA Quassem
With deep love and respect, we remember Dr. MA Quassem, Former President of NAAB, who passed away on 15 April 2023. Born on 2 January 1945, Dr. Quassem served NAAB with great dedication and wisdom, leading the association for an extended period with unwavering commitment.
As President, he played a pivotal role in shaping the vision and structure of NAAB, inspiring countless alumni through his leadership, experience, and gracious personality. His contributions laid a strong foundation for what NAAB stands for today — a vibrant, connected, and purposeful community.
Dr. MA Quassem Sir's legacy continues to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know and work with him.
May the Almighty grant him eternal peace and Jannatul Ferdous.

February 1959 : Passed Matriculation Exam from the Pogose School, Dhaka;
March 1961 : Passed Intermediate Examination from Dhaka College, Dhaka;
1966 : BSc in Civil Engineering, BUET, Dhaka, Started working for East Pakistan Water Development Board- Bangladesh Water Development Board;
September 1979 : Post Graduate Diploma in Hydraulic Engineering, IHE, Delft;
June 1988 : Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Policy and Project Planning with Distinction, ISS, The Hague;
July 2000 : Doctorate of Participatory Management, Barrington University, Alabama;
2002 : Retired as Director General of Bangladesh Water Resources Planning Organization;
18 June 2022 : Lifetime Achievement Award, Institution of Engineers Bangladesh;
15 April 2023 : Died at the age of 78;, Survived by 01 daughter, 2 grandchildren and countless friends, family members and well wishers.

In Loving Memory of Dr. Arifur Rahman
We fondly remember Dr. Arifur Rahman, Senior Scientific Officer at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), who tragically passed away in a road accident involving a train on 20 March 2022.
Dr. Arif served as the General Secretary of NAAB and was a dedicated, passionate member of our community. He devoted significant time and energy to organizing various NAAB initiatives and played a crucial role in strengthening institutional networking at the government level.
His contributions, leadership, and warm spirit will always be remembered and cherished by the NAAB family.
May the Almighty bless him with Jannatul Ferdous and grant his loved ones peace and strength.
